2006 is Shaw’s sesquicentennial, and the ISS is sponsoring or has sponsored three events to celebrate that:


1.     “Sesquicentennial Shaw: An International Bernard Shaw Conference” at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, June 8-11, 2006, has come and gone.  For details, see 


2.     “The Third Annual Shaw Symposium” at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, August 18-20, 2006, has also passed.  For details, see  


3.     “Bernard Shaw at 150:  Theater, Criticism, Contemporaneity:” a Special Session on Shaw at the Modern Language Association Meeting in Philadelphia, December 27-30, 2006. For details, see   The deadline for paper proposals has passed, but MLA members are invited to attend session # 227, which will take place 1:45-3:00 pm Thursday, 28 December, in room 413 of the Philadelphia Marriott.



Three events are being planned for  2007:


1.     A special Shaw session on “Shaw as Playwright” is scheduled for the Comparative Drama Conference at Marina Del Rey (in L.A.), California, March 29-30-31, 2007.   The deadline for paper proposals is November 1, 2006.  For details, see  


2.     The Fourth Annual Shaw Symposium at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario is scheduled for July 28-29-30, 2007.   The deadline for paper proposals is April 15, 2007.   For details, see   Shaw Festival Bryden Scholarships and ISS Travel Grants are available to young scholars who submit a paper for the Shaw Festival Symposium.  


3.     A special session on Shaw is likely to be offered at the next general meeting of the Modern Language Association, details forthcoming.


·        The next business meeting of the entire ISS will be on July 30, 2007 at the Shaw Symposium at the Shaw Festival..  Non-members who are prospective members are welcome to attend meetings.
